What pops into your mind when you think about AAC?
Probably you might have some misconceptions about it. They are understandable given that ideally all individuals would communicate verbally.
However, what most people forget is that nowadays AAC is everywhere and most verbally speaking individuals use AAC on a daily basis.
AAC is any form of communication that is both alternative and augmentative. Think about the amount of time we spend communication through facial expressions, gestures, texting, looking at social media, laughing about memes or even using emojis. Those are all AAC, so one might ask why would communicating through AAC would not be as cool as communicating orally?
