Generalizing results to different environments is our ultimate goal! Therefore, the old saying “practice makes perfect” does not cut it for us, we want practice to obtain PERMANENT results! 👏💪 .
Learning a bad behavior takes around 1-3 exposures; however, it takes 100 + times to motor plan a behavior and learn it adequately. Therefore, during therapy you will see your SLP practice the same sound, utterance, AAC use or behavior hundreds of times .
Individuals with autism, apraxia, down syndrome, and/or CVA might experience motor planning deficits impeding their ability to sequence movements to achieve accurate sound production. Therefore, intense & frequent practice, early intervention and consistency is key to ensure success! 🙏💪 .
Thank you Dr. Braun from Nova Southeastern University for such wonderful seminar on Apraxia and for inspiring this post 💕 .
