Communication Groups
Weekly communication sessions created to support children in expanding vocabulary, turn-taking, sharing, reciprocal interactions and conversations in a group dynamic. Groups are divided by communication level (not age groups). During group, your child will be exposed to a variety of movement activities, arts-and-crafts, cause and effect, pretend and cooperative play activities. Groups are led by Speech Language Pathologists.
- Weekly sessions (currently Wednesdays)
- Pre-Screening session is mandatory
- Parents are provided weekly summary of group activities
Types of groups:
Raccoon Group (Requesters):
Group designed for children who are using words/phrases to name common objects and requests. Children in this group require some support engaging in back and forth play-based activities and benefit from 1:1 support from adults to join activities.
- Groups meet weekly on Wednesdays from 3:15pm to 3:50pm
- Group Goals: to increase back and forth engagement, ability to follow directions in a group dynamic,
- Activities: motor circuits, circle time, interactive book reading, proprioceptive activities, arts and crafts, feeding activities, cause and effect and pretend play, science experiments and birthday/holiday celebrations
- Groups are divided by communication level not chronological age
Eagle Group (Early Communicators):
Group designed for children who use sentences to request and comment but require support using a variety of word combinations to engage in back and forth communication exchanges, engage in turn-taking (sharing), answering hypothetical questions and engaging in conversations.
- Groups meet weekly on Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 4:50pm
- Groups are divided by communication level not chronological age
- Group Goals: to increase vocabulary, ability to formulate sentences with a variety of grammatical components, turn-taking/sharing, using language to talk about concrete and hypothetical scenarios, early conversations and
- Activities: motor circuits, circle time, interactive book reading, proprioceptive activities, arts and crafts, feeding activities, cause and effect and pretend play, science experiments and birthday/holiday celebrations
